Chasing Daylight
In this inspiring book (formerly Seizing Your Divine Moment), Erwin McManus uses the biblical account of Israel’s war with the Philistines (1 Samuel 13 and 14) and the characters of Saul and Jonathan to demonstrate the difference between living a life of purpose and adventure, and living one of apathy and missed opportunity. In the midst of a less-than-hopeful battle, Saul rested beneath a tree as Jonathan seized the divine moment that would impact the future of Israel. Through this story McManus artfully illustrates the eight characteristics of an adventurer’s heart, what he calls “the Jonathan factor.”
Using powerful examples from his own life and ministry, along with fresh biblical teaching, McManus asserts that God crafts divine moments specific to each of us — priceless opportunities for us to actively engage in God’s plan. By developing the characteristics McManus outlines, Christians can move from mundane to miraculous living.

I’ve come to love McManus’s thoughts and conversations with God ever since I heard from speak at the Thirsty Conferences by Passion. Got all of his current books, but I’m curious how different is this new book compared to “Seizing Your Divine Moment?” Did a bible study on this book this past year, so is there a lot of difference between the two books now?

Erwin,
Your insight dives into the very depths of an individuals soul. Upon reading any text you have scripted or listening to any words you have spoken I find myself with an uncontrollable desire to move into the epicenter of God’s will for my life. Thank you, not for your talks and books, but for living a life that validates everything you say and write.

I have read Barbarian Way, Uprising and I am half way through Unstoppable Force. All have inspired my wife and I to lead our young adults ministry to a whole new dimension. God has grown it from 60 to 300 in under two years and I believe God has used these books in our worlds to grow our ministry which is called CHANGE. (18-25 year olds)
So thank you Erwin and team for your continued revelation, caring spirit and inspirational leadership.

Amazing. Mcmanus is anointed of God to call every individual to a life of passion and undying obediance to God. To hear his words is to hear a whisper from God saying,”follow me”. To follow these teachings is to call yourself into a passionate following of the Savior. Open your eyes to the One who calls you to love him and love people.Follow.

I’m in the process of reading Chasing The Daylight, and I’ve never been so inspired in all my life. I have just placed an order for all your books, and am chomping at the bit to get into them.
God gave me a dream in 1979 and lately I’ve been reminded of the dream after years of forgetting. Your books have come to me at a time when I am now starting to fulfill what God told me I’d be doing. It’s not as I imagined, but it’s His work and I’m ready to go into the darkness with His light.

Chasing Daylight is the of your books that I’ve read. I am not only impressed. I am moved out of complacency and challenged to seize divine moments wrapped in deceptively simple packages.
I pastor a church in Quezon City, Philippines. I have preached a couple of messages drawn from this book. The results were nothing short of amazing. It really is time to rise up. As Jonathan said, “Perhaps the Lord will be with us in this.”
Shalom

[...] Chasing Daylight (formerly titled Seizing Your Divine Moments) by Erwin McManus. I’ve been plodding through this book for at least one month. It speaks to me on a very personal level, so that I have to read it slowly, almost as if I don’t want to reach the last page. [...]

My close friends and I are doing the chasing daylight group study and I have to say this is something that has really allowed us to grow and realize that we are the people that are going to make things happen and that we have to stop looking at the game from the bench and really get going with God will for our life.
I always thought that there would be a sudden epiphany and I would then go out and do god’s will. I have realized that I will wait forever and there will be no seizing divine moments. I am awake and very excited to start God’s work! Thanks Erwin for your book.

Last June I was vacationing with my wife in northern Michigan. My wife loves to shop and I love to read, so typically she goes to the boutiques and I wander thru the book store looking for something to read while “Up North”. I saw Chasing Daylight and read thru the first few pages and loved it and bought it. Back in our home church this fall, one of our teaching pastors recommended Mosaic podcasts to round out our learning. So I’ve listened to the first Original Life message and decide to recommend it to my adult children. Curious, I look at Erwin’s page and there’s Chasing Daylight. I just thought that was so cool and had to share it. By the way it was in the Christian section of the bookstore, sorry.

I just wanted to say thank you! My pastor had me read your book “Chasing Daylight” and i must say, I was moved. In the middle of your book i decided to start my own website to share my store of comming to God! I am really excited about improving my relationship with God and growing with him. I am now reading “THe Barbaian Way” and i feel that this to will be a moving book for me. I didn’t list the site name because i didn’t know if i could but i put it in wiht my name and email. I love how erwin can rip apart a form of scripture to make it more understandable and interesting. i would love to stop by and check out one of his sermons at Mosaic .
peace be with you on your adventure to whereever God may take you!

We’ve started the study of Chasing Daylight in our sunday morning class. So far it’s great. I believe we all have missed moments and we can not change that but we can learn from that and seize every moment of the future.
October 19th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I’m in the middle of a bible study with my youth group on “Chasing Daylight” and they are loving it. I’ve already done it with our college group, and think it is just as appropriate for teenagers to tackle. Thanks for allowing God to use you in this way to ask the kinds of questions that, if we’re honest, we all need to be asking. Keep up the GOD work. Blessings.

Amazing book! The moment I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. I’ve read it 3 times already but each read, there’s always something fresh, something new.
January 5th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
My second comment on this. I’ve read the book, gone through the study group, watched the videos and received all the other books Erwin has written. I’m inspired beyond belief! So much to digest; so much to research and pray about. God has really blessed me through these studies, books, videos, and the podcasts. I’m now a regular at downloading and listening to the Podcasts as well. Thank you, Erwin McManus, for jumping into the dream God gave for your life.

Hello Erwin.
I am a 33 year young man, from Ohio. I attend an assembly of God in St Marys…where our pastor referred me to your “Barbarian Way”. My father is a pastor over in Indiana and I must admit that growing up, i became VERY resentful of what church was and what it meant for me. However, I do realise as I get older and more mature in both life and following Christ the TRUE importance of finding way back to my roots and God. My father is the preacher…NOT I! I want nothing to do with the politics of church…BUT, YES…I will “fight for the heart of MY KING”! It is with great pleasure that I have just also finished Chasing daylight and I really appreciate and respect the honesty and transperacy of your writing…and the witness that you truely show for all of us! I grew up in a very conservative/legalistic family…and even as a Christ follower now…I still need the beacons in the night to lead the way! Sorry for writing a novel, but I have been purchasing and giving your books out to others whom I know have the great power of positive influence in their own little circles and I simply ask them to read the books and pass them on or purchase another one of your books to continue passing the torch along!
Thank you so much for writing the books and Glory to God for blessing you with the experiences to encourage the rest of us and igniting/re-igniting the passion in the rest of us!

Erwin-I attended a conference you spoke at in AZ, my daughter attended Mosaic while going to college in LA and I have read The Barbarian Way and Soul Cravings as well as this book. I originally read it as Seizing Your Divine Moment. This book motivated me to propel my own ministry/non profit organization into action and to trust in God’s provision. Thank you for allowing God to speak through you. You have been an inspiration and “awakened” my soul to live a life without boundaries to serve Christ! Blessings!

I found the book “uprising” first and read it…next to the last chapter was the “Ah ha” point!…bought the rest of the books and the Crave DVD …reading Chasing Daylight now and it feels good to find someone who stirs my soul and creativity that I find so often repressed in denominational religion. I have a vision to reach the 14-40 group that tends to be missing in our denomination and I belive the messages in these books are great tools to implement in a missional effort to fulfill that vision quest. Biblical, but creative….IHS…paul

What we write is a written record. People often write from their heart, what is in their head at the time or they simply document their emotions. Writing from the soul is an entirely different experience. That is when the power of the written word is truly fueled.
Thanks for writing from your soul.
